I live in an apartment with carpet flooring. The carpet has split near the front door, along a straight line, from one side of the room to the other.
This occurred about a year and a half after our move-in, and the leasing office claims that the carpet was installed new prior to our move-in date. As it is, we are being held liable for the cost to repair the carpet. I don’t believe that we have done anything to cause this, unless routine vacuuming is unacceptable for carpet wellbeing. Can an inspection report show that we weren’t at fault for the damage? I feel that the carpet was not installed appropriately, because we’ve also had problems with stepping on small nails near the edge of the carpet that have caused puncture wounds.

It's hard to see, but it appears to be at the seam. I would recommend getting a certified inspected to evaluate.
